LAS VEGAS–Motorola
on Tuesday announced three new phones, including the company's first
phone made of recycled plastic, a ruggedized phone for AT&T, and a
Web-optimized slab phone primarily for Asian markets.
Moto's most innovative new phone is the W233 Renew. Destined for
T-Mobile, the Renew is a simple, bar-style voice phone with green
accents. All the plastic used to make the Renew is recycled from the
sort of large water bottles used in office water coolers, said Melissa
Gardner, Motorola's vice president of global franchise marketing.
"We've had a lot of input from consumers who are interested in more eco-responsible mobile products," Gardner said.
The W233

Sun Microsystems
may not be making a lot of money these days, but it is not afraid to
keep investing in areas that it deems important. And the company
considers cloud computing very important to its future.
The struggling IT giant, whose stock has been mired in single digits
since August 2008, revealed Jan. 7 that it has acquired Q-layer, a
small cloud computing software provider that automates the deployment
and management of both public and private clouds. Terms of the deal
were not disclosed.
Q-layer, based in Belgium, will become part of Sun's Cloud Computing
business unit under Senior Vice President David Douglas. Q-layer

By Tim Moynihan During four digital camera announcements at the Consumer Electronics Show
in Las Vegas today, Samsung introduced a wide-angle, 10X-optical-zoom
camera that ranges from an extremely wide 24mm on the wide-angle end to
240mm on the telephoto end. In wide-angle capability, the Samsung HZ10W
is the league leader at this year's CES among fixed-lens cameras.
The
10.2-megapixel HZ10W, which will be available in January for $300, also
features a 720p high-definition shooting mode (30 frames per second
with the H.264 codec) that saves video clips as one file, even after
the shooter pauses the recording. Also in the mix are dual
optical/digital image stabilization and today's usual host of
face-detection, smile-trigger, and red-eye-correction modes.
In addition to the HZ10W, Samsung announced the ultracompact, 12.2-megapixel TL100, which is just 16.6 millimeters thick.

Hi. I'm a PlayStation 3. I made great strides in 2008 but we all
need to better ourselves in some way, so here's my list of New Year's
Resolutions. I swear I will apply myself to achieving all goals
outlined below!
I will become more affordable...even if I don't wanna be
When I first launched with a $600 price tag, I desperately tried to convince everyone that it wasn't "pricey;" it was fair. Heck, it was more
than fair, considering it cost Sony $840 to make me. But it was
difficult to convince many people without many great discs to pop
inside my complicated architecture, and so I labored through the first
few months and a lot of 2007. And although Sony wanted to promote me as
a piece of filet mignon in comparison to the low-grade cheeseburger
that was supposed to be the Xbox 360, I still needed a price cut. And
so I got one...well, I got a few, actually. But no

One of the highlights of Ford's display at the 2009 North American
International Auto Show in Detroit will be the debut of the 2010 Ford
Mustang Shelby GT500 that has been blessed by 86-year-old Ol' Shel
himself. The GT500 is equipped with the same powerplant that was fitted
into last year's limited-edition GT500KR, a 5.4-liter supercharged V8
cranking out 540 hp at 6,200 rpm and 510 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. The
engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission with an improved
short-throw shifter. A new twin-disc 250-millimeter clutch made from
organic material provides a smoother engagement of all that torque. A
new 3:55 limited-slip differential is standard. While the
powertrain is virtually the same as on the KR, the new GT is fitted
with some new sheetmetal that puts an even more aggressive-looking
Mustang on the road. The exterior is dominated by the large-mouth front
grille and

overhauled .Mac serveice gets pushy -- and that's good thing.By Jeff Carlson
July 25, 2008 (MacWorld)
Synchronization is hard. It may sound simple: copy personal
information, such as contacts and events, between computers and keep
them all up to date. But over the years, we've seen sync programs that
don't quite work. I not-so-fondly remember manually deleting hundreds
of duplicate contacts from my Palm handheld years ago, and even now, I
run into records in which separate companies and individuals were long
ago squished together into the same contact.
Apple Inc. has thrown resources at this problem over time, and the
latest incarnation, MobileMe, adds the capability to synchronize some
data to devices and other Macs lickety-split, the way Microsoft's
Exchange Server performs in the corporate world. In fa
